Children's Ministry Director Job Description

Overview:  The Children’s Ministry Director exercises general responsibility to develop, implement, and evaluate ministries, programs, and activities that encourages all children to grow in faith as Christian disciples.  Specific responsibilities include organization, implementation, and evaluation of a Sunday morning program, Vacation Bible School, nursery, and the Parent’s Day Out program. The Children’s Ministry Director is a part-time position reporting to the Lead Pastor.  



  • Evidence of passion for ministry with children and a strong commitment for faith formation with children.

  • Evidence of basic knowledge of child development and understanding the importance of providing a safe and nurturing environment for children.

  • Minimum three years’ experience in active church ministry leadership with an emphasis on Children’s Ministry

  • Advocate for children, particularly in the areas of faith development, safety, and discipleship.

  • Ability to plan, carry out, and lead a varied and wide ranging program 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Proficiency with computer and general office equipment

  • Team commitment with strong organization skills

  • Maintains confidentiality

  • Meet MUMC Safe Sanctuary Policy requirements for working with children

  • Comply with MUMC Staff Policy Manual


Major Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, and oversees a children’s ministry program which has appropriate spiritual formation and education goals for age/grade levels

  • Recruit, train, equip, mentor, and supervise Children’s Ministry staff/volunteers

  • Engage the MUMC family in the importance of and support of Children’s Ministry

  • Oversees the Parent’s Day Out ministry

  • Ensure that the nursery maintains high standards of cleanliness, safety, and stimulating environment

  • Ensure the safety of all children/youth, by maintaining and administering the MUMC Safe Sanctuary Policy

  • Participate in overall safety/security planning and practices

  • Work with the Finance team to develop and administer the Children’s Ministry budget

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor


Monday: 9 am - Noon

Tuesday: Noon - 4 pm

Wednesday: 9 am - 4 pm

Thursday: 9 am - 4 pm

Friday: Closed
