Anyone who has dropped by Mason United Methodist Church during any week this summer has probably witnessed the flurry of activity taking place. I am in awe of the folks doing all the work behind the scenes, getting the building ready for the new Saturday and Sunday worship services and schedules starting next month. The planning, construction, painting, moving of equipment, etc., makes me want to wander the halls just to see what's new since the week before! And while the changes to the building are wonderfully exciting and impressive to see, as the Connections Director I can't wait to see and hear how folks FEEL when they come into our spaces starting Saturday, August 19, 2017, for our new Gathering at 5 pm, and then the next day for our new joint times for Traditional and Contemporary services at 10 amon Sunday the 20th!
The Connections/Welcome team has been busy planning how we can best welcome everyone on our newly-designed Sundays. I look forward to seeing everyone gathered around The Coffee Spot and the Arise & Shine table, reconnecting with old friends they might not have seen in awhile because they attended different services. Or, meeting newcomers trying to decide whether they want to attend the Contemporary or Traditional service, all while being able to send their kids to Sunday School or the nursery, enjoying the service they choose in peace. But having all of our guests, regular attendees, and members arriving at MUMC at basically the same time is a little daunting because we truly want to ensure that every person coming through our doors feels welcomed and appreciated.
To that end, I imagine that most of you have heard or read about Serve The Call, where you can discover all of the wonderful opportunities to serve, many pertaining to our newly-designed Sunday morning services. If you haven't yet, check your email and you can find out how to join us in our vision to make Mason United Methodist Church the most welcoming place to be on Sunday mornings! To achieve this, we will need cheerful folks who enjoy interacting with others to sign up as Greeters, Welcome Desk Volunteers, and Parking Lot Attendants. What an exciting time to get involved if you never have before!
In closing, I was reading a blog on a different website recently and it had a link to a hymn that I adore above almost all others, Be Thou My Vision. Of course I had to listen, and it brought to mind the vision and prayer that the Holy Spirit is working through our new endeavors to help us truly be a reaching, nurturing, sending community of committed followers of Jesus.
Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that thou art.
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.
