Food, faith, family, and football those are the reasons why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! We sometimes seem to overlook it or in ways dread it but once its past, we miss it. It's a holiday that is simple I think and at times, we over do. It's a simple time to share a meal together and be with the ones you love. Which, if we look at every holiday isn't that what it's all about being together and sharing time together.
This will be the first holiday season without my grandparents. I continue to remind myself how blessed I was to have them for 30 years of my life. Every Thanksgiving as a child and throughout college I can remember going over to my grandparents for Thanksgiving lunch. The smell of turkey warm in the oven, the 5 different pies already on the counter because everyone had to have their favorite pie, the laughter around the kitchen island and stovetop as we all tried to sneak a little before everything was ready. These memories will stay forever in my heart. It's time shared and time together that is what makes the holidays magical. This year where it will be hard, it will be a time to remember all the good times.
I have always had a base rule and that is not to do anything Christmas related such as listening to Christmas music, watching Christmas movies, or Christmas shopping till after Thanksgiving! Some people are fans of my base rules, such as my younger sister and others, such as my mother and older sister, are not a fan she has been watching hallmark Christmas movies since the day after Halloween. Don't forget to be in the moment during the holiday season and look for all the many joys that God has given us during this time in particular. Let's take the time to stop and enjoy the season, not stress over it. Make the season joyous and magical by spending it together and sharing life together with people.
Remember as we start this advent season and count down the days to Christmas that its not about getting the right presents for that certain person on my list, making sure that the cookies have just the right icing on them, or even that the gifts are wrapped to perfection; its about that Christ was born and gave us the gift of love and grace!! Let that be our gift to one another!!
I wish you all and Happy Happy Holiday season! Nicole
